Kafue National Park is simply huge! At 22,000 sq kms it is one of Africa's largest national parks.
Whilst that means there is plenty to see - and to gain most from a trip to Kafue, it's key to experience as many of its differing terrains as possible - there can be large distances involved.
Accessing the park is easy. Road transfers from Lusaka or Livingstone can easily be arranged (taking 3-5 hrs dependant upon your destination), but far more rewarding is an air charter flight straight into the park.
Ideally located airstrips include Hippo (not surprisingly, close to Hippo Lodge) and Ngoma, which is roughly halfway between Konkamoya and Nanzhila in the southern section of the park.
Getting between individual lodges is most often by 4x4. Whilst these are sometimes longish journeys (on average 3 hrs +), there is often game-viewing to be done on route, as well as the option to stop off and visit villages, schools and other attractions along the way. The choice is yours!.
